Type 2 diabetes is a condition where the diabetic is insulin resistant, this means that the pancreas still produces insulin but it is ineffective in lowering glucose levels in the body anymore. Insulin resistance is associated with decreased muscle mass and increased fat. The muscle cells utilize insulin in a more effective manner than fat cells; this causes the muscle to build up and reduces the fat. When this happens then the body uses the insulin in the proper manner thus lowering the blood glucose levels. People who are overweight and physically inactive are at a higher risk as well. The complications can be prevented in Type 2 diabetes provided there is a change in lifestyle. Weight loss and increased physical activity are to be adopted.

The pancreas normally produces insulin when the sugar in the blood is on the higher side especially after meals. The blood sugar level is lowered when the insulin sends signals to the muscles and liver to take in the excess sugar.
When the body requires sugar to exercise for a short span of time it uses glucose that is stored in the muscles and liver. With a continual exercise routine however the body uses glucose 20 times the normal rate. This lowers blood sugar levels.
On the other hand, too much of rigorous exercise has an opposite effect that is there is significant rise in the blood sugar levels. This happens because the body recognizes it as stress and shoots out stress hormones which indicate the need to increase available blood sugar to fuel the muscles. In this case the diabetic may need some insulin. If, by any chance the blood sugar is too high then a person should not do exercise.
